Corpohass joins network of sustainability leaders with a business focus
CECODES, the organization recognized as the regional node of the Global Network of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), welcomed Corpohass (Corporación de Productores y Exportadores de Aguacate Hass de Colombia) among its allies.
This integration to the network of leaders in sustainability with a business approach, represents endorsement, recognition and support to the work that the Corporation carries out from the Colombian Hass avocado agroindustry, fruit that is currently the third most exported by the country, the second that generates more income and the protagonist of the fourth line of agricultural trade with other markets in the world.
“Being part of CECODES is to reaffirm our commitment, as a sector, with sustainability, from an integral approach, through its three dimensions: social, economic and environmental. In addition, it is an alliance that represents a great support for the Hass Avocado Origin Colombia to be positioned in more than 30 markets to which it is exported, as a benchmark of quality and sustainability” – Katheryn Mejía Vergel, executive director of Corpohass.
Joining the CECODES network will allow Corpohass to learn about sustainability together with the most outstanding organizations in the country. In this way, the sector can put this knowledge into practice through tangible actions that motivate the strengthening of the country’s economy, environmental protection, and social development.
In addition, the Corporation will work hand in hand with the members of this network to learn how to achieve continuous economic growth that offers opportunities to a greater number of people while at the same time making reasonable use of natural resources and preserving the ecosystem.
“Knowing the commitment and leadership of Corpohass as a guild that unites Hass avocado producers and exporters, from CECODES we welcome it as an associate, to accompany them with international and cutting-edge business tools adapted to the local context in our roadmap Vision 2050 Colombia, and strengthen their business strategy and value chain with a 360 look focused on sustainability” – Sergio Rengifo Caicedo, executive director of CECODES.
The Hass avocado sector closed 2023 with a record of exports, achieving a 26.3% increase in containers shipped. According to data from the Dian, during the first month of this year the commercialization figure also grew, increasing 53%, compared to the same period of 2023.
Corpohass projects that this year exports will grow at least 15%, equivalent to at least 147,244 tons of fruit. After the Main Harvest, which closed in February, the sector is preparing to receive La Traviesa, a season of high volumes and good yields.
To achieve this, the different actors that make up the value chain of this agribusiness are working as a team and joining efforts to make sustainability a reality for the sector, materializing in its ability to formalize rural employment, enable gender equity and knowledge transfer, and generate development and social welfare.
